Settecento
 
[sɛtɛ'tʃɛnto; italienisch, eigentlich »700«, kurz für »1700« (= 18. Jahrhundert)] das, -(s), italienische Bezeichnung für das 18. Jahrhundert; im engeren Sinn als Stilbegriff der Kunstgeschichte Bezeichnung für die Epoche des italienischen Spätbarock im Übergang (im letzten Drittel) zum Klassizismus. Repräsentativ für die Baukunst sind die Superga auf einem Hügel oberhalb Turins von F. Juvarra (1717 ff.) und der Palazzo Reale in Caserta von L. Vanvitelli (1752-54). Das Zentrum der Malerei des Settecento war Venedig mit G. B. Tiepolo. In Rom und Venedig wirkte der Kupferstecher G. B. Piranesi.
